One year after Haiti earthquake

After the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti in January 2010, Dorcas joined forces with other Dutch organizations to provide emergency assistance to the affected people in Léogâne/Gressier via a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation intervention. Via its local partner organization (CRWRC), Dorcas contributed significantly to the following project results: provision of 3,500 tarps for immediate shelter until homes can be rebuilt; provision of emergency funds/livelihoods assistance to 2,331 households and provision of toolkits to 1,400 households; installation of 19 water points (deep water wells with pumps and/or taps); and construction of 831 starter wooden frame homes. Dorcas and its counterparts are now preparing for a second project phase focusing on provision of secure shelter to another 400 households in Léogâne who have lost their house as a result of the earthquake.
